    Fragrance Story

The working title was originally Margaret Thatcher’s Still Dead, but there are laws to protect even the worst sort of us posthumously. (This will break my husband’s heart as he very much wanted to open a pub in the UK with the same title.) In 1987 under Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative government, Section 28 was a legislative designation for a series of laws across Britain that prohibited the “promotion of homosexuality” by local authorities. It was in effect from 1988 to 2000 in Scotland and from 1988 to 2003 in England and Wales. It caused many organizations such a LGBT student support groups to close, limit their activities, or self-censor. In remembrance of Margaret, this fragrance is an unbridled filthy romp in a gay nightclub. To paraphrase Jackie ‘Moms’ Mabley, “I was always taught never to say anything about the dead unless it’s good. She’s dead. Good!”

Maggie’s Last Party was featured in The New York Times Style Magazine.
