California Proposition 65 warning
Natural perfumes can expose you to beta-Myrcene (β-Myrcene), Methyl Chavicol (Estragole), Methyl Eugenol, and Styrene, which are known to the State of California to cause cancer. Proposition 65 does not differentiate between naturally occurring amounts and industrial concentrations: the studies that resulted in listing β-Myrcene as a carcinogen were toxicity tests of over 90% pure β-Myrcene on laboratory animals that were force-fed over virtually their entire lifetime doses that far exceed any human exposure related to common uses of β-Myrcene containing plants and their essential oils. Our natural perfumes are made using essential oils, CO2 extracts and absolutes, yet each of these extractions methods require different means to achieve their ends. Essential oils such as bergamot, lavender, and patchouli are manufactured using either cold-press extraction or steam distillation. CO2 extracts such as ambrette seed, cardamom, and champaca are produced using supercritical carbon dioxide as an inert solvent that returns to its gaseous state after extraction. Absolutes such as tuberose, jasmine, and tobacco are manufactured first using a solvent such as hexane to extract the aroma, and then adding ethyl alcohol to remove waxes and/or other deposits. Companies can further isolate aromatic compounds from natural materials to produce what are known as isolates. (We do not use any isolates or fractionals in our natural perfumes.)
We recommend that you apply a small amount to your skin and allow a few hours to fully experience the scent as it reacts with your body chemistry. If you have questions or concerns about a particular fragrance note, please contact us.
Our natural perfumes should be enjoyed within 2–3 years after purchase. After time, any citrus notes will naturally dissipate, thereby changing the overall profile of the fragrance. Always store your perfume in a cool place away from heat or excessive light.
